InformationEvery two years since 2003, the Biennial has the ambition to bring together the most dynamic players in the regional cultural scene around a common usage the term in both generic and unifying Resonance. Biennale invites art centers, galleries, cultural institutions and artists' collectives Rhône-Alpes to join her by the bais of a call for proposals. The final choice is up to the artistic director of the Biennale an unlimited number of projects, with the dual aim of involving all key elements of the regional problem of the Biennale and provide greater visibility. Beyond an "off" as opposed to a simple cultural agenda, Resonance has become over the years a veritable poster collective aims to bring together very different places (spaces, budgets, teams ...), not only in the field of contemporary art but also in literature, dance, theater or music. The result is a profusion exemplary and unique in the world of biennales: a thirty events in 2003, and in 2011 Resonance pass more than 200 exhibitions, performances, concerts, screenings or performances, highlighted through numerous operations (opening week of the Biennale, a Night resonance offering a wide night when strung openings, performances and concerts ...) accompanied by a catalog together all the projects selected and edited 30 000 copies. This network is both dynamic and multiplied is now fully integrated into the Biennale and is an essential platforms. With their entry into the so-called post-media or post-conceptual artists are more concerned with creating new narrative structures to communicate their stories, real or imagined, as their experiences, small or large. The starting point is no longer the material and the technique of painting and traditional sculpture, but a concept, an idea or a story that will then be materialized. To some extent, we can even say that the originality of the artistic gesture is carried by the originality of the narrative constructions which may involve materials and space organizations vary widely.
Aware that the world is made of stories, and that is especially biennial show of its time, the commissioner of the Biennale de Lyon 2013, Gunnar B. Kvaran, proposes to explore the various forms of international contemporary narrative art focusing on the works of artists who not only to tell or to tell, interested in shaping their visual narratives and are involved in the development of specific narrative devices.
