Born in 1971 in Courtalain in Eure-et-Loir , Armel Jullien is a self-taught painter now living in Haute- Loire.
From 1989 to 1992 , he studied graphic art school Brassart Tours where he graduated from running advertising cartoonist.
Early on, painting became his main interest , although he devoted himself to watercolor from 1990 to 1994 .
Between 1993 and 1996 , Armel Jullien works a lot drawing from nature and frequently travels to the Louvre to see , observe, discover , meet the works of the masters , and specifically those of the painters of the Middle Ages to the Baroque. If he does not follow courses in painting , it contains within itself an enormous desire to " be like " them. It was during this period that the oil paint is needed and never left him ...
Armel Jullien as interested in Dürer, Holbein , Rubens, Velazquez as Lucian Freud, Eric Fischl , Liu Xiaodong ... and many others.
" What guides my work as a painter is the opposite emotion to Nature I meet and the desire to find my subject " living " on the canvas. I work in the momentum with something feverish , I try to capture a set with precision, the subject is there ( but not hyper-realistic figurative painting ! ), Not only because of its image, but by painting.
This meeting is essential.
The look can then go beyond the surface ( oil on canvas) and work to let capture . »
