    About the artist

Marga Dirube, a self-taught and multidisciplinary artist, was born in Havana, Cuba.

Marga Dirube was trained as an interior design at IADE, Madrid, and developed her career in collaboration with the decorator Ángela González López de Carrizosa in her studio in Madrid. Between 1987 and 1989 she attended classes at the studio of the painter Julia Relinque.

Since 1993 she dedicated herself exclusively to plastic arts, teaching workshops, illustrating master classes, theatrical scenery performances and to printing collections designs on fabrics.

The technique used in her artworks had its beginnings in the use of paper, which formed reliefs and overlays to developing later with oil or acrylic. Later Marga Dirube experimented with fibreglass and discovered the resistance and translucency that she was missing in her works. She started including it regularly as support with the aim of structuring her compositions on various levels, showing in each new creation a bit of the former one. Her latest works are installations created with fabrics such as tulle and tarlatan that include reliefs such as balls, tangled wires, etc.

Her artworks have been honored in several contests, winning among others, the Extraordinary Reina Sofia Award in the year 2009 as well as the Medal of Honor in the 19th Contest of BMW Painting Awards in 2004.
