    About the artist

Lives and works in Los Angeles, California
1978: Was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota

A native from Los Angeles, Nathan Hylden is admired for his ability to question the very essence of painting in a unique body of work.  The precise, subtle and complex dimension of his paintings create an ambiguous pictorial space – where  the impassable surface of the wall is represented oscillating in transparency as if to have a fluid presence. His images record the movement of light creating a sequence where the shadow of a ladder makes its way across the paintings. Utilizing various medias (aluminum, pearlescent paint, spray-paint), each painting becomes a single frame within the sequence. The works trace the passage of time in the studio as minimal difference to an absurd degree on a large scale.

Hylden has exhibited widely, including recent solo exhibitions at Johann Koenig, Berlin, Misako & Rosen, Tokyo, and Art:Concept, Paris and Richard Tellses Fine art, Los Angeles. He has also participated in many group exhibitions, whose venues include Paul Kasmin, New York, Galerie Rodolphe Janssen, Brussels, and Sutton Lane, London, the De La Cruz Collection, Miami the Rosenblum Collection, Paris all in 2010.
