    Robert Adams was born in Orange, New Jersey, in 1937, and moved to the fifteen years with his family to Denver, Colorado. After his doctorate at the University of Southern California, returned to Colorado in 1962 as a professor of English. That's when, worried about the rapidly changing areas of Colorado Springs and Denver, Adams began photographing a landscape newly occupied houses in series, highways, shopping centers and service stations. Robert Adams has lived since 1997 in Oregon, where the landscape has starred in his last twenty years of work.His photography has undergone major solo exhibitions at the MoMA in New York, the Denver Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and a major retrospective in the middle of his career, organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1989. Among other awards, the artist has the Spectrum International Prize for Photography (1995), the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize (2006) and the Hasselblad Award (2009)
