    About the artist

Many of my paintings may be familiar scenes, but perhaps overlooked in today’s fast-paced society. The subjects are diverse, but always positive. Inspiration occurs while gazing up into a tree’s canopy, at the sight of water splashing over rocks, or in the reflections found in a quiet harbor. Light and how it interacts with shape, plays an important role in the many of the subjects I choose to paint. Realism has always been a primary focus. Whether working in watercolor, pastel, or gouache, I enjoy the challenge of manipulating color and value to create an illusion of depth on the two-dimensional surface. My recent shift into abstraction is not intended to replace my realistic work. It is an exploration of color and design, texture and space, as a way of stretching my creativity. I think of it as “recess” for my ‘artist child’.
