The Siqueiros Public Art Forum, fulfilling its vocation as a bridge between modernity and contemporary art, seeks to focus attention on researching the work of the Mexican muralist in three specific ways: the restoration of the murals in our forum that correspond to his last work period, the digitalization of the documentary archive in our custody, and the eventual search for any contemporary opinions that might challenge the paradigmatic concepts of David Alfaro Siqueiros’ thoughts.

The intricacy of contemporary artistic practices and strategies that have to do with the public dimension of art, its social nature and immersion into politics, not to mention the constant critical blitz from the media, will be the core topics we will cover in the coming years of work. In that way, transgressive art production as well as debates and forums open to airing different opinions, will strengthen the institutional profile of this art gallery.

To boost set budgets, the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, in collaboration with La Tallera cultural center located in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos, and another of the places donated to Mexican culture by David Alfaro Siqueiros, will develop, starting in 2012, a new international residency program for artists, critics, scholars and curators of art that will expand the local/global dialogue while at the same time moving some of the artistic and intellectual production to some other Mexican city.

The Los de arriba y los de abajo exhibition, curated by artist Javier Tellez, initiates the cycle of artistic production discussed by contemporary creators; a proposal whereby Tellez starts from the physical axes of the exhibition space in an effort to show their ideological meanings. At the same time, he explores the status of the displaced artist, but one who also occupies, a notion that would seem to identify with global art practices. In parallel, but also in terms of space analysis, we are inaugurating the Facade Project, a proposal of this museum’s curatorial team that will try to explore the possibilities of appealing to the public of this city, appropriating and parodying strategies from foundational movements of contemporary art.
