    A participatory seminar to present and debate contemporary issues in art writing with staff and students from Goldsmiths MFA Art Writing course and invited guest speakers.

    The seminar series is organised by 2nd Year Art Writing students in conjunction with Maria Fusco, Director of Art Writing, Goldsmiths. Each seminar will be attended by different members of the MFA Art Writing staff which includes Maria Fusco, Yve Lomax, Michael Dean and Michael Newman.

    How do you make a character?

    The final art writing seminar will take the form of a workshop on how to be a person, led by Hannah Black. She asks participants to assist her in producing a script for a filmed performance, through fast writing exercises and discussion.

    Informed by theories of how economic and social conditions shape us into particular subjects, we will draw on recent news stories of aliases used by undercover cops, scriptwriting exercises, personality tests, spam emails and job centre questionnaires to collectively create a fragmentary assemblage of a script that will be performed by actors in the afternoon.

    There are a very limited number of places available for guests. Applicants should submit their interest in attending an event by emailing a letter with 100-word biographical details and a 100-word statement of interest to Joseph Schneider: vap02js@gold.ac.uk.
