    Information

Award winning artist and filmmaker, Charles Atlas presents a new version of MC9 (2012), a multi-channel video piece exploring the intersections of media and dance. Atlas revisits and reconfigures material that he had made with and about Merce Cunningham over a period from 1971- 2010.

As part of this week-long project in the Tanks, he will also collaborate with Paris-based dancer and choreographer duo Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud, New York based performance artist Johanna Constantine and sound artist Helm in a series of open rehearsals and ticketed performances with live video editing, projection and music.

Born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1949, Atlas is best known for his groundbreaking work in collaboration with choreographers and performers like Merce Cunningham, Michael Clark, Yvonne Rainer, and Leigh Bowery. One of his most well-known works, Hail the New Puritan 1986, is a made-for-television mockumentary of a day in the life of Michael Clark. Atlas actively crosses the borders between the fields of dance, performance, and the visual arts. Starting out in New York in the early 1970s, Atlas was part of the first generation of artists to explore the artistic possibilities of video.
