During the eighties he established himself as a key figure in the contemporary art scene in New York, was a friend of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, with whom he collaborated in printing editions of his black and white photographs , was the artistic director of her first photography book Exposures and shared with him the idea of ??machine stitch the photos, the first exhibition of photographs by Warhol in the Robert Miller Gallery.

Makos is very close to Spain and specifically to Madrid in 1983 came from the hand of Andy Warhol. Here lived long periods that allowed him to make great friends and photograph some of the protagonists of the Madrid scene.

Makos's photographs have been published in magazines like Interview, Rolling Stone, House and Garden, Connoisseur, New York Magazine, Esquire and People and in recent years has further explored the creation of paintings and silkscreen prints as the folder on ManRay that is a tribute to his first mentor and Makos'Icons folder is a collection of silkscreen portraits of Andy Warhol, Elizabeth Taylor, Salvador Dali, John Lennon and MickJagger. In 1993 premiered Makostyle, weekly half-hour in a commercial cable television.

His photographs have been the subject of numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe and Japan, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the IVAM in Valencia, The Burning House in Madrid, and recently the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, China. In 2007 the National Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid purchased two of his portraits of Warhol large format for its permanent collection.

"But until the day of the first photo shoot I did not realize that a little makeup and a studied pose not enough to turn a man into a female referent. Hence, decided to make two separate sessions: the first Andy posed as women portrayed in his works on request. In these photos, took the glaze of rich women portraying nonstop. Then organize the second photo shoot with glamor. And so, with the help of a professional makeup artist, Andy became a special "altered image".
"If we consider the emotional state of culture in the world, in 2009, images of" MistakenIdentity ", created in 1981, still speak eloquently to contemporary audiences. To me, I call to mind to ManRay, who was my great inspiration, and Andy Warhol, who was my best model and friend "-Christopher Makos

    The Hilton Brothers

With a pseudonym inspired by the Hilton Sisters, Siamese vaudeville stars of the thirties, and the Hilton sisters of today, the famous American heiresses the hotel empire, which personified the banality of pop culture at the dawn of this new century, Makos explains "our life is our art, and more so than in our photographs compose, and edit. We like to have fun with our identity as much as amuse others. "
