Manifestos were and still are a tool that gives voice to society, a way of showing a social, politic or artistic claim.

In the scope of the contemporary art, from the time of the vanguards, the manifesto has been a fundamental element to give voice to diverse artistic, current movements and ideologies .

Ana G. Alarcón, curator of the exhibition, has invited different artists to explore the manifesto, taking as a starting point the different aspects from the manifesto, to raise and vindicate their condition (political, social and activist) like creators. As well, she induces to think over the idiosyncrasy of the own manifesto, on what exactly symbolizes, its weight, or its relevance, that can have nowadays. This way, the artist, from an individual positioning, raises his own manifesto, either from “the word” or “the action”. These individual voices, reflect and construct an imaginary group, some needs that become patents like reflection and echo of a society and a time. The creator proposes some own and specific restlessness, speaking to us as well of universal needs.

MANIFESTOS. Individual voices from the social imaginary retakes and analyzes multiple clear facets throughout the history of art, like the artist being elevated indebted of its own time, as a tread and reflection of a moment, a place and a concrete context.

Each creator invites to the reflection from their words and their actions, from their own glance.

Artists or collective associations from different generations have been selected, each one with heterogenous restlessness and very different profiles of work, although all of them with a common characteristic, that could be clearly defined as activist.

The exhibition shows seven proposals: three of them of creators with an expanded and artistic trajectory and other four belonging to what we can frame as the emergent art in Spain.
