InformationThe Obra Social "la Caixa", in collaboration with the National Gallery in London, presents this innovative exhibition on the relationship between the great masters of art history, photography of the mid-nineteenth century and the work of contemporary photographers fascinating developed relation to their predecessors.
"Seduced by art. Past and Present Photo" presents, first, the history of art as a driver of innovation in nineteenth century photography and, second, the origins of photography as catalysts work of contemporary photographers . The paintings and photographic works, ancient and contemporary, are grouped according to the traditional genres such as portraiture, still life and landscape to explore the relationships established with respect to both visual style, as experimentation technical or artistic method.
The exhibition brings together some of the photographers most important British and French, along with the works of international contemporary artists, including photographs and videos are specially created for the exhibition and have not been shown publicly before. So exceptional works of great masters such as Gainsborough, Ingres, Fantin-Latour Vernet or dialogue with contemporary artists the likes of Craigie Horsfield, Rineke Dijkstra, Thomas Struth, Richard Learoyd, Ori Gersht and Beate Gutschow, which in turn explore the debt they have with their nineteenth-century predecessors, such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Gustave Le Gray and Roger Fenton, also present in the sample.
