    A building for two museums: Museums of Modern Art - one of the City, the other state - were created in 1937, on the occasion of the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in Modern Life . Historically, the City of Paris wanted to split the collections of the Musée du Petit Palais to create a modern art museum, dedicated to the artistic movements of the twentieth century. The same thought was committed by the state, around the Musée du Luxembourg and the Jeu de Paume. This thought gave birth to the joint project of the Palais de Tokyo was built in 1937. The State moved to the National Museum of Modern Art in 1947, before transferring to the Centre Pompidou in 1977, while the City of Paris to create the Museum of Modern Art in 1961. An open architectural competition in 1934 in competition 128 projects including Tony Garnier, Le Corbusier and Robert Mallet-Stevens. It was won by the team of Jean-Claude Dondel and André Aubert, supported by two young architects Architects of experience, Paul and Marcel Viard Dastugue.
