The Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum and the Matti Koivurinta Foundation that maintains it started organizing the Turku Biennial exhibition regularly in 2003. The Turku Biennial is an exhibition of contemporary art with the aim of bringing together new, interesting artworks by current artists. In 2011 all together 19 artists from around Europe and Russia are participating in the Turku Biennial. They were chosen by an international group of six curators. The exhibition at hand has a more international character than ever before. It also continues its history as a profound presenter of Finnish, European and Russian contemporary art.
