Toronto - OCT 12, 2013

The Canadian artist Ashley Mackenzie analyses the relationship between mind and body. Her conceptual illustrations are found halfway between philosophy and neuroscience as they search for new ways to visually reflect complex ideas.

The images Mackenzie creates show the inner workings and complexity of the mind through bodies that melt, become fragmented or simply give in to the impulses of philosophical thoughts, with a style that is delicate, sparsely-detailed and highly symbolic. The scenes are composed by strange situations and that lack a specific context that invite the viewers to seek their own interpretations.
