The traveling European Biennial of Contemporary Art will celebrate its tenth edition for the first in an eastern European Country. The event, to be held in 2014 in the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, marks the meeting of shared anniversaries and historical relationships between the Russian museum and the Board of Manifesta Foundation

From its beginnings, the Biennial has promoted an open dialogue between the European countries once divided by the Iron Curtain. Manifesta 10 will explore the historical relationship between East and West Europe, placing special emphasis on St Petersburg view to the West.

2014 will also mark the 20th anniversary of Manifesta and 250th anniversary of the Hermitage Museum. Manifesta saw its origins shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and quickly became a meeting point for the new social, cultural and political context that emerged. During the last two decades, the Biennial has analysed and reflected the changes in reality and artistic experiences as the new global world order transforms them.
