The Spanish graffiti artist is internationally known for his smiling fishes that can truly make anyone smile.
Pez, “fish” in Spanish, started painting in 1999 in Barcelona. His goal was to create a universal language so he could communicate with all the people that passed by his graffiti. The universal symbol he was searching for was the smile.
He began using it through a smiling fish he incorporated near his tag. Over time this character, that would be known as the 'Happy fish', evolved and became the center of all his work. Pez was now synonym of a fish with a great smile that spread 'good vibrations', as he explains, to everyone on the street.
More than 10 years later, his 'happy fish' and their family have invaded the streets of cities all over the world with their huge and contagious smiles. Their straightforward style, bright colours and complex compositions are impossible to ignore. They burst from the wall in an explosion of colour that fills the street, no matter where it is located, with free happiness.
