Sara Macel, a photographer with a great ability for story telling, invites us to discover the life of a travelling salesman.
Sara Macel, a North American photographer, is an excellent storyteller. Her photographic work is built as a visual narrative that explores, through her personal vision, a specific fragment of reality. One of her most impressive series is May the Road Rise to Meet You, that focuses on documenting her father's professional life as a telephone pole salesman.
Through a journey of mutual discovery, Macel shows us a very intimate look at her father's experience on the road, showing the loneliness and the life he's led for the last forty years. But the series also talks about her desire to know him better, of seeing what and who he sees to better comprehend a figure that is also part of the culture of the road. In the end, the viewer is invited to observe and travel along in a quest to discover the changing nature of the road in American culture. But Macel also leaves some questions unanswered as open ends in an endless journey: "What I found in chasing this enormously elusive male figure is that I can never fully know my father or what it is like to be a man alone on the road."
