Anja Niemi shows the emotions behind female social prototypes.

Social prototypes revisited by Anja Niemi
- SEP 11, 2013

Anja Niemi says she is a Norwegian photographer whose way of life is based on playing dress up and creating characters to photograph. Niemi feels fascinated by society's obsession to hide all the ugliness of life. Her characters instead seek to reveal the cracks that make up the facade of their identity, showing both sides of the coin of all kinds of social prototypes.

In her images, her peculiar self-portraits show situations where the subjective and personal are mixed with universal moments and conventions. Niemi believes in the combination of private and public to convey universal definitions, that invite the viewers to lower their guard, even for a moment, and identify with the moment that she has built.
