Markus Hofer creates baffling sculptures from altered everyday objects.

The eccentric sculptures of Markus Hofer
Vienna - AUG 15, 2013

The Austrian Markus Hofer is a storyteller that uses sculpture as his medium. His method begins with common objects, mostly basic everyday things, that are intervened and manipulated, altering their structures and their original meanings slightly. But the subtle change transforms the object into the representation of an idea, forcing the viewer to take a closer and more careful look.

Each artistic intervention is simple yet powerful, an invitation to an eccentric and baffling universe where perception and visual habits are questioned and modified. Hofer forces the viewer to a constant discovery and brings to his attention the ordinary things that surround us and the stories they can reveal.
