In this new CONTEMPORARY PAINTING exhibition we are excited to present a variety of new approaches to contemporary painting. Exhibiting digital painting for the first time, we are pleased to have the abstract compositions of a mother and daughter duo Erin Aysen & Her-Name. Also working with abstract lines are Saulo Castro and Mayu Inaba, who exhibits small-scale works in response to the abstraction present in our everyday life, in cellular forms, nebulas and microorganisms. Hrisina O’Hara presents her abstract lines in unconventional round canvases, touching ideas of fantasy and human existence. On the other end of contemporary painting, figuration and portraiture are here represented through diverse approaches. While the figurative works by Luis Blasco use expressionistic colours, recalling modern art works of the 20th century, Matheus Pires’ paintings aim to give a face to anguish and represent the ephemeral moments in the dead of night, nightmares and delusions. In juxtaposition to his portraits of the disfiguration and deconstruction of human figures, Jenna Tompkins adopts portraiture to pay tribute to musicians and icons of rock and pop. Returning to exhibit with us, Sakko presents a series of landscape paintings, a theme also addressed by Sinclair Webster in his paintings of wildlife with graphic lines.
